About the Dominant Color

Apps like Spotify theme their UI from album art. This tool computes your image's dominant color via quantization and renders a labeled swatch with the HEX code — drop it into CSS variables for instant adaptive theming.

How it works

The tool quantizes your image's colors and selects the single most representative one — weighted so that a big sky or background asserts itself over scattered accents. It answers one question precisely: 'if this image could be one color, which?'

How to use it

Drop up to 10 images and process — no settings needed. Each result presents its dominant color as a swatch with HEX, RGB and HSL values ready to copy.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .jpg, .png and .webp up to 30MB each, 10 per run. Results shift with composition — the same photo cropped differently can legitimately have a different dominant color, so feed it the version you're actually designing with.

Common use cases

Auto-generating accent colors for cards and galleries from their thumbnails, building music-player style ambient theming, tagging images by color in DAM systems, and picking page background tints that harmonize with hero imagery.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server when I use Dominant Color?

Everything runs locally in your browser via the Canvas API. Your picture never leaves your machine — there is no upload step at all, so processing is as private as working in an offline editor.

Can it open JPG, PNG and WebP files?

The common formats are covered — JPG, PNG or WEBP, each up to 30 MB. Queue them one batch at a time.

How many images can I process at once?

Batch runs take up to 10 files at once (30 MB each). There's no account, no daily quota and no watermark — process as many batches as you need.
