About the Color Palette Extractor

Build brand palettes and design schemes from photos: median-cut quantization clusters your image's colors into the 3–16 most important tones, displayed as labeled swatches with HEX codes. Download the auto-generated swatch sheet PNG for your docs.

How it works

A median-cut quantizer analyzes your image's pixels and derives the N most representative colors — the same algorithm used in PNG palette reduction, pointed at design instead of compression. You choose how many swatches to extract, and each arrives with copyable HEX values.

How to use it

Drop one image, set the palette size (5–10 is typical), and extract. Click any swatch to copy its HEX, or download the generated swatch sheet PNG for your design docs.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .jpg, .png and .webp up to 30MB; single-image sessions. Very colorful photos yield livelier palettes than muted ones; logos and illustrations produce their exact brand colors almost deterministically.

Common use cases

Building website color schemes from a hero photo, extracting brand palettes from logos, choosing paint or outfit colors from inspiration shots, and giving design teams a shared, objective starting palette from any reference.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my images processed?

Everything runs locally in your browser via the Canvas API. Your picture never leaves your machine — there is no upload step at all, so processing is as private as working in an offline editor.

What kind of image files work with this tool?

JPG, PNG or WEBP inputs are supported, up to 30 MB per file. For exotic formats, convert them first with one of the converter tools, then come back.

What are the size and batch limits?

This tool handles one image at a time (up to 30 MB). For batch work, use one of the multi-file tools instead — the per-image result is the same.

Can I fine-tune the result before downloading?

Yes — settings include Palette size. Each run regenerates the preview, so you can compare options before downloading.
