About the Channel Mixer

Channel swapping remaps which sensor data feeds each output channel — the trick behind 'infrared' photos (R↔B) and psychedelic rotations. Pixels are permuted without resampling; the frame is then re-encoded at high quality, so PNG output keeps it lossless. Maximum weirdness.

How it works

The tool reassigns which byte drives each output channel: swapping red and blue turns skies amber and foliage magenta; other permutations produce their own signature casts. It's a per-pixel remap with no resampling — wild in effect. The swap is mathematically reversible, but since photos are usually saved back as JPEG, keep your original if you want a pristine undo path.

How to use it

Add up to 10 images, pick a channel permutation from the dropdown, and process. Preview the remap, try another permutation, then download the winners individually or zipped.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .jpg, .png and .webp up to 30MB each, 10 per batch. Grayscale images barely change (channels are equal); saturated images change dramatically. The swap itself is inverse-identical — PNG output can be undone pixel-perfectly — though saved JPEGs add normal re-encode noise, so keep your original file.

Common use cases

Creating false-color and infrared-style art, debugging image pipelines by making channel errors obvious, generating psychedelic variants for creative projects, and teaching how digital color actually stores its three components.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server when I use Channel Mixer?

Everything runs locally in your browser via the Canvas API. Your picture never leaves your machine — there is no upload step at all, so processing is as private as working in an offline editor.

Which file types are supported?

JPG, PNG or WEBP files up to 30 MB each are accepted. Drop in one file or a whole batch (paste and drag also work), check the preview, and export in the format shown at the download step.

How many images can I process at once?

There are no artificial limits: use it as often as you like, free. Practical caps are 30 MB per image and 10 files per batch, and outputs stay watermark-free.

Can I fine-tune the result before downloading?

The controls cover Channel mapping. Nothing is baked in until you press the action button, and every run gives you a fresh preview to check.
