About the Remove Color (Chroma Key)

Chroma keying removes every pixel close to your chosen color — the green-screen technique, generalized to any hue. Feathering softens the cutout edge so subjects blend into new backgrounds instead of showing a hard halo.

How it works

The tool measures each pixel's distance from your key color; pixels within tolerance become transparent, and the feather slider softens the boundary so edges don't look cut with scissors. It's a color-distance key — the same idea as a green screen, applicable to any color.

How to use it

Drop one image, set the key color (sample the exact shade for best results), adjust tolerance until the target area clears in the preview, add feathering to taste, then download the transparent PNG.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .jpg, .png and .webp up to 30MB; single-image sessions; output is PNG with real alpha. Uniform backgrounds key cleanly; busy backgrounds catch collateral pixels — raise tolerance carefully and preview often.

Common use cases

Knocking out green-screen and blue-screen backdrops, removing colored studio backgrounds from product shots, extracting subjects from solid-color design comps, and building transparent sticker assets from flat art.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server when I use Remove Color (Chroma Key)?

Everything runs locally in your browser via the Canvas API. Your picture never leaves your machine — there is no upload step at all, so processing is as private as working in an offline editor.

What kind of image files work with this tool?

JPG, PNG or WEBP inputs are supported, up to 30 MB per file. For exotic formats, convert them first with one of the converter tools, then come back.

What are the size and batch limits?

This tool handles one image at a time (up to 30 MB). For batch work, use one of the multi-file tools instead — the per-image result is the same.

Can I fine-tune the result before downloading?

The controls cover Color to remove, Tolerance, Edge feathering. Nothing is baked in until you press the action button, and every run gives you a fresh preview to check.
