Image Metadata & EXIF Viewer

Inspect EXIF, GPS and PNG metadata of any image — camera model, date, settings, location. private, in-browser — the file never leaves your device.

About the Metadata Viewer

See what your photos secretly carry: camera make and model, exposure settings, timestamps, software tags, PNG chunks and GPS coordinates — all parsed locally by a built-in EXIF reader. Your files are never transmitted, so checking sensitive photos is completely safe.

How it works

The viewer parses your file's byte structure locally: EXIF IFD blocks for JPEG (camera, exposure, ISO, aperture, focal length, timestamps, orientation and GPS coordinates when present), PNG chunk inspection for tEXt/iTXt data, and baseline info for WebP and GIF. Nothing uploads — the parser runs in your tab.

How to use it

Drop one image and the report renders immediately — no buttons, no waiting. Browse the sections, expand GPS details if present, and simply close the tab when done; the image was never sent anywhere.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp and .gif up to 30MB. Files stripped of metadata (by social platforms or the Remove Metadata tool) show minimal tables — absence of data is itself the finding.

Common use cases

Checking what private data a photo exposes before posting it, recovering camera settings from a shot you want to reproduce, verifying image provenance and edit history, and teaching photography students what EXIF reveals.

Frequently asked questions

What metadata can photos contain?

JPEGs often carry EXIF (camera, exposure, date, GPS), PNGs carry chunks and text tags, and WebP/GIF carry minimal data.

Why check metadata?

Before sharing photos publicly, check for GPS coordinates and personal info — then strip them with our Metadata Remover.

What metadata can I see in a photo?

For JPEG: full EXIF — camera make and model, exposure, ISO, aperture, focal length, date taken and GPS coordinates when present. For PNG: the chunk inspector shows color type, bit depth, DPI and other container data.

Does viewing metadata upload or change my photo?

No on both counts. The file is parsed inside your browser tab and nothing is sent anywhere — the report is generated locally, and your image is never modified or stored.
