About the Grayscale Image

Grayscale converts each pixel to its perceptual luminance using the standard 0.299/0.587/0.114 weights, so reds and blues map to natural grays rather than flat midtones. Use 100% for classic monochrome, or lower values for a subtle desaturated look.

How it works

The converter weights each pixel's red, green and blue by how the human eye actually perceives brightness — green counts most, blue least — rather than a flat average, which is what makes the result look like real monochrome photography instead of a washed-out desaturation.

How to use it

Drop up to 10 images, set the grayscale intensity if you want a partial effect (100% is full black & white), and process. Preview each result, then download individually or as a ZIP.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .jpg, .png and .webp up to 30MB each, 10 per batch; output keeps your chosen format, including transparency in PNG. Partial intensities create tasteful desaturated looks between color and monochrome.

Common use cases

Timeless portraits, print-friendly documents, moody blog headers, and accessibility checks (grayscale reveals if an image still reads without color). Developers also use it to test dark-theme imagery before committing to a palette.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server when I use Grayscale Image?

Everything runs locally in your browser via the Canvas API. Your picture never leaves your machine — there is no upload step at all, so processing is as private as working in an offline editor.

Which input formats does Grayscale Image accept?

Common formats are covered: JPG, PNG or WEBP, each up to 30 MB. Paste from the clipboard, drag and drop, or use the select button.

What are the size and batch limits?

Up to 10 images per batch, 30 MB per file, and unlimited runs — no signup, no counters, and no watermark stamped on results.

Can I fine-tune the result before downloading?

The controls cover Grayscale strength. Nothing is baked in until you press the action button, and every run gives you a fresh preview to check.
