About the GIF to PNG

Need a still image from an animated GIF? This tool decodes the first frame and saves it as a full-quality PNG — handy for previews, documentation and places that don't accept GIFs.

How it works

The tool decodes the first frame of your GIF and re-encodes it as a lossless PNG. GIF's 256-color ceiling means gradients were already banded in the source; PNG keeps exactly what's there without adding artifacts, and any transparency in the frame is preserved.

How to use it

Drop one .gif file and press Convert — no settings needed. The extracted still appears in the preview; download the PNG and use it anywhere stills are expected.

Supported formats & limitations

Accepts .gif up to 30MB, single file per run; output is .png of the first frame only — animation doesn't survive by design. If you need a different moment, use a platform that exports that frame first.

Common use cases

Making video-link previews, posting a GIF moment to platforms that auto-convert animations, extracting a still for documentation, and creating thumbnails from animated stickers. Also useful for debugging what a GIF's opening frame actually shows.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server when I use GIF to PNG?

Everything runs locally in your browser via the Canvas API. Your picture never leaves your machine — there is no upload step at all, so processing is as private as working in an offline editor.

Can it open JPG, PNG and WebP files?

The common formats are covered — GIF, each up to 30 MB. One photo is processed per run.

How many images can I process at once?

Files can be up to 30 MB each, one per run. There's no account, no daily quota and no watermark — process as many images as you need, one after another.
